Going dark?
It’s been a couple of weeks now that the sneaker.org server died yet again. I finally brought the site up by moving to a new box (Thanks to Tim for putting up with my zaniness and building a new box and putting it up on the net for me to configure remotely!) Some things like comments are still not working, but honesly I havent had the motivation to look into it yet. If you hadn’t noticed, the site has been languishing from time to time. This is because I am still and probably always will be figting over what I can and cannot share in this public medium. Contrary to the perception you would garner from this website, I am a rather private person and keep things to myself and everytime I think about blogging about something I wonder what the impact of it would be. Or how peple will interpret it. And I land up not writing a lot of things. Things which would have otherwise been quite cathartic.
So recently, I have been wondering if it is time for sneaker.org to go dark or at least is it time for it to turn ‘for my eyes only’. What do you think? (Oh and since comments aren’t working — email me.
Making fun of stereotypes while raising issues…
A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of watching Bend It Like Beckham a film by Gurinder Chadha starring Parminder Nagra. I decided to see this movie because I received an email from a highschool friend of mine who is into films which contained a forwarded message encouraging people to go to the movie opening night in the US to give is a huge reception to help the movie do well in the US. (Honestly, I wasn’t receptive to that idea since I would rather support merit rather than sheer ratings — but then again, that is why I’m writing this review).
So when I had nothing else to do one evening, I dragged a friend of mine with me and we went to watch the movie. It literally had me in splits to watch all the typical desi and more so punjabi, ABCD (in this case ABCBritt), parental and sexual orientation stereotypes. The movie was funny in terms of typifing stereotypes of all kinds, but at the same time raising a fair number of issues — probably more so than you would expect from a movie that has you in splits quite often. An overall crowd pleaser and a highly recommended movie to watch.
Eavesdropped!
