Laziness and Motivation — or lack there of

At least one of you has asked me why I haven’t been posting recently (it’s been nearly 3 weeks or more since my last post) — first, I’m glad to see that at least one person cared whether I post or not! 🙂 The main reason for me not posting these days is a complete and utter lack of motivation to do absolutely anything. Sitting in bed all day in front of the idiot box watching movies which I’ve already seen before is about as far as I get. But hang in there, I’ll be back to posting more crazy stuff in the near future.

(I also happen to be in New Delhi, India for the past couple of weeks…)

  • Searching for the end…. — “As each of us grow up we get exposed to what I can only describe as sturctured competition — competition where the metrics of success or failure are clearly measurable”
  • Things people do to earn a living… — “…the one good thing about the gullibility and the stupidity of the people is that it makes for a fairly easy profession that almost anyone can take up as long as they can spin a incredulous tale!”

  • Partying, LA style… — “But in my book the award for the best costume goes to Superwoman and her sidekick the Superdog (or Superbitch?) both of whom were adorned in their appropriate costume. Superdog of course was an 8 month old german-shepherd mix — Maya”
  • Wolfgang Puck’s Cafe and Typhoon — “…the Spicy Chicken Pizza that I ordered was actually really good. So everything was going really well, except as it always happens, I got a small piece of bone in my chicken 🙁 ” and “My friend actually ordered (and ate for that matter!) Frogs Legs! They also had a whole section on the menu titled “Insects” — yup that’s exactly what I was looking for.”
  • GPS is a good thing! — “in *every* case – all I did was punch in my destination without thinking… the Magellan GPS system did the rest. Finding restaurants, hotels and pretty much any services… all a breeze. GPS truly rocks. A huge thumbs up!”

  • They judge me before they even know me. – Shrek in the movie Shrek
  • “Everything has to be checked out very carefully. Otherwise you become one of these people who believe all kinds of crazy stuff and doesn’t understand the world they are in. Nobody understands the world they are in, but some people are better off at it than others” – Richard Feynman in The Meaning of it All

  • The aftermath of traveling…

I don’t mind traveling as much as I used to. What I do mind however, is the aftermath of traveling and coming back to tons of snail-mail (mostly bills and junk mail at that), a cold apartment, dirty laundry, multiple voicemails, drooping or nearly dying plants since no one was there to water them and all kinds of things at work and home to play catch up with.

So I guess I’m busy trying to get caught up… but here’s some fun new stuff for you. Highly recommend reading the article about Typhoon — a restaurant I ate at while on my trip out…

  • “No government has the right to decide on the truth of scientific principles, nor to prescribe in any way the character of the questiosn investigated…” — Are you listening Mr. bin Laden?? You would think this was something said in the wake of the recent events, but the words above were instead the closing remarks of a lecture by Richard P. Feynman at the University of Washington (Seattle) in April, 1963. I couldn’t agree more!
  • “I think a power to do something is of value. Whether the result is a good thing or a bad thing depends on how it is used, but the power is value” — Richard P. Feynman in The Meaning of it All on the question of the value of science.

  • Traveling…

I’ve been in the SoCal area for the past week – and what I’ve learnt is that for people like me location hardly matters. Whether I’m in Pittsburgh or in LA or any other place — what I do pretty much remains the same — and a big part of it is still being on the Net a lot more than I should! 🙂

So here are a few small blogs while I’m on the road… still not a 100% into writing the more significant thoughts and stuff. The ambivalence is back. Will resume once it is suppressed again… hopefully.

  • Writing

I haven’t been writing as much lately. Not for a lack of things to write about — my list of things I have yet to post is ever increasing. however, more for a lack of motivation. Not sure what good writing all the crap I put out here does, so I haven’t been inclined to take the time to do it as often as I was doing it earlier. So I’m spending more of my time these days making good use of the Carnegie Library, the DVD player on my notebook and the CD player in my car.

I guess what I’ll ask for is your feedback… low on fuel… need more feedback.

  • Amazing people… — “It is truly an exhilarating experience for me to watch and listen to the successes of people who have gone over and above what most even dream of achieving in their lifetime. To all those who have done so in he past and to all those who are doing it today and to all those who will do it in the future — you are all amazing people.”

  • Dante’s Peak — “Had I seen Dante’s Peak prior to September 11th, 2001, my reaction to it would have been notably different.” …”having a Volcanologist that looks like Pierce Brosnan is about as believable as having a geek that looks like Sandra Bullock :)”
  • Movies that haunt: Gray Lady Down and The Poseidon Adventure — “This entry is about movies and boks that have haunted me as a child – literally. These are stories of danger and courage which got embedded so deep when I saw them or read them that the very thought of them used to invoke the feeling of fear.”

So I’ve been watching the logs for people visting this site and there is a definite propensity for people to look only at this page. I’d encourage you to peruse the sections on the left and below. Not all the good stuff is on the surface you know 🙂

  • Nothing’s changed… we’re still animals… — “Humans are just as much animal-like as they were when they first started. Just the means and the methods have changed. And in some cases, animals are better than humans”

  • Hooray for DVD players, MP3s, large hard disks and Bose QuietComfort Noise Reduction headphones! — “A public solitude — all of my own. A public place with my own space. The ideal place for a pseudo-recluse.”
